Welcome
Now come one, come all to this tragic affair----

Welcome to Nightmares & Daydreams. A modern day rp that takes place in a psychiatric hospital.

You were thrown in here for one reason or another. Dumped in this hellhole they call Daniel Grey Psychiatric Hospital, or actually more commonly known as the local loony bin of California. When you think "psychiatric hospital" or "mental institution" I'm sure the first thing you think are those scary asylums they have in the movies with bright white lights everywhere and people in straight jackets not talking to each other.

I guess in a way Daniel Grey is like that in the sense that a lot of the walls and floors here are a bright white. But there aren't any people in straight jackets and a lot of the people here talk to each other. Actually the patients here are friendly in most cases, save for the few that are anti-social beyond belief. And they can dress how they want,it's actually quite homey here so don't be afraid when you're dropped off for the first time.

Whether you be a normal human being who decided to work here at Daniel Grey as a therapist or security or an unstable patient you are welcome here, just remember. Lights out at 10 PM and DO NOT step out of your room past midnight.

The Courtyard

Post by Alexander Evans on Sun Sep 15, 2013 5:24 pm

The Courtyard
The courtyard is just one of those hang out areas. There are lots of cameras out here and security around any area where a patient may be able to break out. Often patients eat lunch out here or just spend their free time hanging out with friends and playing ball.

Re: The Courtyard

Sitting against the trunk of the tree, knees up and fingers scribbling eagerly across the sketchbook placed in her lap. Peyton was desperately trying to get the butterfly that happened to land a few feet away, drawn before it decided to take off. Her pink tongue was poking out from her lips, and her brows knitted in concentration. Nothing was going to distract her now, not in her free time.

Blue eyes lifted and fell with every glance at the beautiful insect. It wasn't very often that the girl could get a glance at such a creature. After all, she was horribly allergic to anything with fur, feathers, or creepy crawly legs. Even if she did want to play with them she couldnt' always somehow ending up blowing up ten times her size and being ill in bed for weeks. There was no cure she had found, and the pills she took only suppressed the allergies she had when just in the same room as the animal. Things like these saddened her very much, but she didn't let it bother her much. After all, if she did, then her alter ego might come through and cause damage. That was something she didn't want.

Humming softly, she scribbled more, and more, her thoughts only on the one monarque butterfly that sat on a small thin piece of grass. Only when she looked up again, did it fly away and she huff in disappointment. The breeze rushing through her, while her blue eyes followed the creature. Free it was, and free she wasn't. Knowing and accepting the fact that she was indeed not sane enough gave her leverage in the midst of this building. She felt safe, even if it didn't always emit safety from it's walls. Though, she guessed it was always her horrid alter ego that often loved to cause problems for her.

Curling her bangs behind her ears, she lowered her knees and rested her head against the tree. Looking up to the sky in exhaustion, and wondering when the last time she had slept had been, and what had happened during that time.

The warm sun and soft breezes did not agree with her mood, not one little bit. Sometimes, Chloe couldn't help but wish that she was like one of those magical creatures in the storybooks she'd poured over when she was a child and could conjure up storms at her whim. She did so adore a rainy day. Dark. Cloudy. Generally far more palatable then all this so-called 'wholesome fresh air and sunshine' was.

Still, she remembered what happened when she didn't do as suggested. There were questions to be answered. Annoying, prying, /personal/ questions, and Chloe was not one to talk. That was why therapists were something she approached as blandly as one might approach a particularly nosy stranger.  She said yes, and no...and only repeated what they said when it seemed important enough to pretend to memorize. Other than that, she said nothing as Chloe had learned early on that the things she might say could and would be used against her. And often.

Chloe's path halted some distance away from the girl under the tree, that gir's presence only serving to irritate beyond her usual prickliness. Now, logically - Chloe realized that the girl had every right to be out in that courtyard. That it wasn't /her/ space and /hers/ alone...but she'd so enjoyed being alone, even if it was in the sunshine,  so how dare this other person just appear out of nowhere and interrupt her.

The stare she gave that limpid blonde, well it's entirely likely that it would be felt even from that distance away. Chloe had never been one to hide distaste, and for some reason - at that moment - this girl's face made her want to lash out and just ruin it. Not merely slap it, or scratch it...but outright slash it to ribbons. Instead, though, she merely stuffed her hands into her pockets and walked toward her, pausing another moment just to glare at the female before settling on the other side of that tree - perhaps making it a point to make the other girl uncomfortable enough to leave without actually being near enough to be accused of such methods of intimidation outright.

She could feel something or someone’s eyes on her, and it made herself conscious, even as she finished up the last remaining bits of the butterfly. Looking up briefly did she see the hateful glare of a girl, but it didn’t last long as she went right back to her picture. Making sure to keep on task with what she was doing rather than concern herself with others. However, the girl really seemed to want to make it a point that she was indeed in her line of sight as she went to the other side of the tree. Peyton only realized how much the girl was bothering her when the pencil lead snapped. Biting her lip, the girl tried to ignore the other by sharpening the pencil. It seemed to take her minutes to shave the pencil down to the lead length she preferred, only to go back to her sketch.
Crossing her legs, she sketched a bit more of the flowering background, and while she did a small but bluntly loud murmur spoke through her teeth, “May I help you?” she questioned, as politely as she could without actually spitting it out. The problem was, that this girl was causing her focus to change, and it bothered her to no end. Even her sketching started to go out in bursts of long dark etched out lines, rather than her usual light touched swift scrapings she did to draw.

Her expression had settled into a rather apathetic blankness - those blue eyes of hers shifting from first a grass hopper, to a single blade of grass and then back to the grass hopper once more. The whole world was made of insects, or at least that was the way Chloe saw it. Insects and parasites, and though there were many that tried to remind Chloe that she might need to start considering herself a member of that race of bugs that crawled across the face of planet earth, she just simply couldn't bring herself to do it. To associate herself in any way with /them/.

It wasn't that she thought herself better, per se. Merely that she thought herself a higher form of this species of beast that people called human. It was why she could see the world as it really was. Why she knew that the sun was not beautiful, and that those emotions that people seemed to place so much stock in were merely a product of conditioning. Chloe had never been susceptible to that sort of conditioning, and so her brain had remained more primal. More clear. So she focused on her blade of grass, and that grasshopper and then after a moment pointedly placed her foot down on the Jiminy Cricket wannabe and crushed the life of it slowly out of it's little body. Her lips twitched subtly, the insides of that bug scraped absently off the bottom of her shoe by rubbing it into the grass, and just like that, her attention was elsewhere.

"May I help you?"

The words cut into her brain, prim and proper and icy as the water inside of a glacier. She supposed those tones should have bothered her, should have made her feel...what? Guilt? Some flare up of conscience at having aggravated the girl she was sitting near enough to disturb her personal peace? She felt nothing, except perhaps for a sense of detached amusement at the fact that the other girl seemed to fully expect her to feel /something/.

"I didn't invite you to speak to me." She offered in cold, clipped tones...not bothering to turn around right yet as she really saw no need. Her lashes lowered, empty blue eyes drifting down to the shimmer of black on her nails. She'd painted them prior to arrival, so they had yet to chip. She liked black. It was a soothing, calming color. There was comfort in the emptiness it encompassed simply because it wasn't nearly as empty as people assumed. It was that white that was the product of being devoid...black simply meant that whatever was that color was simply too full of color to be anything but black.

She huddled a little deeper in her jacket, not really in an effort to shield herself from the chill of oncoming night, but more so to form a more physical barrier between herself and the very air that was being breathed by others that saw themselves fit to share it. It was getting dark out, a glance up told her that much...and though Chloe really wanted to watch the sun begin it's slow slide downwards, she knew that if she so much as lingered when she shouldn't that those so-called 'caring' staff members would be all over her ass. And she had their attention enough as it was. So without so much as an adieu, or other acknowledgement, she stood up and absently dusted any grass or dirt remnants off of her clothes and then headed on in - like the 'good patient' she sometimes could be, when it suited her.

Sighing lightly, as if getting rid of a large weight, the girl merely continued to make her sketch elaborate. Shading now while she awaited the other blondes response. Peyton’s own blonde locks were falling and swaying as her blue eyes skimmed the paper. Short strokes and harsh lines were made while she worked as vigorously as the light would allow. The pink tongue that had been displayed from her lips was now inside while her lip was being chewed on lightly.
Peyton had sketched so intensely and feverishly, that she never even noticed the girl impeding on her space. Her left thumb went in while she sketched to make dark lines into shades, inking her fingers with the fine lead. Only when the girl responded was her concentration broke, and the pencil she used snapped again. The dotted mark that was left behind completely ruined the picture all together, and it irked Peyton to no end. Grinding teeth, she turned, only to see the girl walking back inside.
Mouth dropped open, and the girl watched speechlessly towards the door for a few minutes, before turning and staring at the sketch she drew. The snapped lead of the pencil was still rolling about the page. It was as if that little nonsense of a snap caused her own self to nearly snap. Breathing was eradicated and her hands were in small fists, snapping the pencil itself while the sun started to head below the depths of the earth.
Soon it was dark, and her breathing had calmed enough to where she could stand. While she did, the pencil that broke completely was dropped, and the sketch book was still open. The only thing Peyton could think at the moment was that, that girl and her were not going to get along. No matter how much she might wish it, she knew deep in her soul that getting along with everyone was not going to solve anything, but only hurt everyone.
