Welcome
Now come one, come all to this tragic affair----

Welcome to Nightmares & Daydreams. A modern day rp that takes place in a psychiatric hospital.

You were thrown in here for one reason or another. Dumped in this hellhole they call Daniel Grey Psychiatric Hospital, or actually more commonly known as the local loony bin of California. When you think "psychiatric hospital" or "mental institution" I'm sure the first thing you think are those scary asylums they have in the movies with bright white lights everywhere and people in straight jackets not talking to each other.

I guess in a way Daniel Grey is like that in the sense that a lot of the walls and floors here are a bright white. But there aren't any people in straight jackets and a lot of the people here talk to each other. Actually the patients here are friendly in most cases, save for the few that are anti-social beyond belief. And they can dress how they want,it's actually quite homey here so don't be afraid when you're dropped off for the first time.

Whether you be a normal human being who decided to work here at Daniel Grey as a therapist or security or an unstable patient you are welcome here, just remember. Lights out at 10 PM and DO NOT step out of your room past midnight.

The Library

Post by Alexander Evans on Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:49 pm

The Library
The library is always open and patients can come and relax and read a book maybe talk silently with some friends. A lot of younger patients (students) come here to do research and do homework (there is very little homework assigned usually as to avoid stressing students). Basically the library is another hang out place in the institution for the patients.

Cassie entered the library and was met with utter silence.  She instinctively put her ear buds in and turned on her music.  My Chemical Romance spilled into her ears.  She checked the time.  7:00 which meant she still had an hour to sight-see before she would have to return to her room to unpack before lights out.

Mama, we all go to hell.
Mama, we all go to hell.
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well,
Mama, we all go to hell.

The lyrics were a little upsetting to Cassie but she liked the tune
.

"What have you done?"  Her mom was leaning over the corpse of her fiance and tears were streaming down her face.

"Ph-Phoebe did it." She lied, tightening her grip around the knife anxiously.

"There's a special place in hell for people like you."

The flashback caught her off guard and she quickly wiped a tear from her eye before moving on to browse the shelves of books that stretched across the entire library.

Mama, we're all full of lies.
Mama, we're meant for the flies.
And right now they're building a coffin your size,
Mama, we're all full of lies.

Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue,
You should've raised a baby girl,
I should've been a better son.
If you could coddle the infection
They can amputate at once.
You should've been,
I could have been a better son.

Most of the books in the library appeared to be nonfiction.  Maybe fictional books had too much violence or cursing.  Maybe they just don't want patients to have any fun.  Whatever the reason, she stared at a book titled 'Why you matter' wondering how self loathing you would have to be to read a book like that.

And if you would call me your sweetheart,
I'd maybe then sing you a song....

She skipped the last few verses because the rest of the song upset her.  Just thinking about listening to Gerard Way sing about killing people with that 'fuck of a gun' and then about how they were all damned sent a violent shudder through her body.

She carefully skimmed the rows of lower shelves of books.  The shelves were practically floor to ceiling and she wasn't interested in searching any shelves higher than eye level.  Nothing really caught her eye out of the ocean of Dr. Phil books so she moved over to an empty computer to play solitaire.

Dr. Evan's had been just sitting in the library reading for the longest time. He had been reading just little books and he just finished The Tale-tell Heart for the thousandth time. The book interested him probably because of the main character being insane, it sort of helped him get into the heads of some of his patients.. mainly Adrian who reminded him of the main character a lot. From what Dr. Evans could tell, this character had schizophrenia just like Adrian and he believed he was sane, just like Adrian. Of course as far as he knew Adrian never killed someone but he still saw Adrian in the main character.

Setting the book down gently he stood up, brushing his clothes flat and noticing Cassidy at a computer with ear buds in. He hadn't talked to the girl that much and he was kinda weary of her. He was kinda confused why they hadn't sent her away to a more strict asylum with other murderers, she had killed someone. Who knows who she could hurt here. They were all far to fragile and innocent here.

Taking a seat beside her he watched her play solitaire for a bit before turning his attention to her and talking. "Hi Cassidy, I don't think we've met yet. I'm Dr. Evans, one of the therapists here. I'm an Occupational Therapist. That means I help people with mental illness function in daily activities that may prove to be difficult. I don't know a lot about your disorder, so I'm not sure if I'll be working with you individually, though I am the Therapist that runs the group therapy most the time so I doubt you wont see me at all." After talking he went back to watching her play the simple game again. "Have you been led to your room and given your schedule yet? I usually am in charge of that but I was busy at the time of your arrival.. I am unsure if someone else had set you up... and if you need anyone to show you around you can ask any of the therapists seeing as you do not have a room mate."

"Hi Cassidy, I don't think we've met yet. I'm Dr. Evans, one of the therapists here. I'm an Occupational Therapist. Cassie quickly turned around and took her ear buds out when a man who introduced himself as Dr. Evans approached her.  She nodded her head in understanding but didn’t speak up.  The silence suffocated her for only a second before the doctor spoke up again.

“Have you been led to your room and given your schedule yet? I usually am in charge of that but I was busy at the time of your arrival.. I am unsure if someone else had set you up... and if you need anyone to show you around you can ask any of the therapists seeing as you do not have a room mate.”

“No, I haven’t  seen my room yet.  I was getting aquainted with some of the other patients.”   and their horses, she thought about adding but decided to leave that part out.  She wasn’t surprised that she wasn’t allowed a roommate but the idea of living by herself scared her.  She had always shared a room wih Phoebe before she died and she wasn’t sure how to cope with all the loneliness.  And the silence.  Just the idea of all those hours and days alone made her dizzy.  Her eyes darted toward her ipod and she considered putting her ear buds back in but she wouldn’t want the doctor to think she was rude or antisocial or anything other than perfect.  She turned off the computer she was using and stood up.  “Um… You wouldn’t mind showing me to my room would you?  I have alot of unpacking to do before lights out.” She said carefully, trying her best to sound obedient and polite.  First impressions, after all, are everything.

“No, I haven’t  seen my room yet.  I was getting aquainted with some of the other patients.” Alexander nodded after hearing her talk. "Thats good, its best to make friends in a place like this.. well in any place really. Friends can help you in ways you could never imagine." Hearing his cellphone start ringing in his pocket he sighed and held up one finger as he answered.

"Hello? Dr. Evans?" a voice of some staff member boomed from the phone speaker, loud and obnoxious and young... one of the interns at the young age of 19. A very smart boy, but also very annoying and loud. "Hello Edgar, what is it that you need?" Edgar's phone made a noise like he was shuffling and and then Alexander heard some whispering before Edgar's voice sounded back in his ear. "Cassidy has a roommate now." Well that was quite shocking news. Why in hell would they give her a roommate? "Why?" was the first question he blurted out. "Well, some people are deciding to pair more people with roommates to give them a sort of chance with it." Alexander sighed, "alright, thanks for telling me Edgar."

After Edgar hung up Alexander turned back to Casssidy with a kind smile. "Right this way, follow me," he said remembering her say something about not knowing where he room is. "I think it would be to your best interest to know you've just recently been given a roommate. I haven't been given details yet though I expect Edgar... he's an intern here.. to contact me again soon to give me details. I'm sure you two will get along fine."

Making his way down the hall in silence with Cassidy Alexander raked his brain for something to say. Sure he was a therapist but Alexander didn't like being the typical "I want you to know you can think of me as a friend, you can talk to me and come to me whenever you need" because he knew when he was depressed the least appealing thing was to talk to some dick head who acted like they knew all.

"Have you made any friends yet?" He inquired at last, tilting his head slightly so his dark brown curls fell in his face. "I know it might be hard to become friends with some patients here as they could be shy or even reluctant to engage in such social activities but if you give it time someone might open to you." He gave a light hearted laugh, "I don't even think some of the patients even like me." He shrugged his shoulders, "no one likes to talk about their problems though. They make me pry them out which most patients don't enjoy."

Once they arrived at Cassidy's room he pulled out a key and unlocked it for her. "Your room will be unlocked at all times from this point on. It had been unoccupied for a while so we had it locked." Just as he was thinking of leaving her on her own for now his phone rang again. "And theres Edgar" he said softly answering his phone and clicking it on speaker so Cassidy could hear.

"Okay Edgar, you're on speaker so Cassidy can hear you and I dont have to repeat information to her."

"Okay" said the loud voice from the other end. "Her name is Peyton Johanen. From what I can tell she seems..." he paused, thinking of a term better to use than crazy. "Violent at times I guess. Her application says she has a sort of alter ego, but not multiple personality syndrome. Other than that she seems pleasant. Just.. stay on her good side and be gentle and careful not to say anything to upset her."

Alexander cringed at this pairing. It would end in nothing but bad. "Okay, thank you again Edgar" he said before clicking his phone off and shoving it in his pocket. "I'm sorry Cassidy but I fear this roommate may not but very good with you, I'm going to look into giving you a different roommate or maybe even not any at all. Sorry to be so harsh, but I don't wanna sugar coat anythings. You have a violent past, and I dont think someone who can tend to also be violent should be with you in a room for long periods of time."

-To Cassidy's room (Cassidy, make your next post in Cassidy's room)-
